Stationery Week! How our love for stationery is affecting our wastage

Happy Stationery Week! All week stationary lovers across the globe have had the opportunity to talk all about their favourite stationary. From fountain pen fanatics to protractor aficionados. From post-it notes addicts to diary buffs. Stationery has allowed us as humans to communicate for centuries! When you think about it, pen and paper are an essential part of our daily lives.

On April 22nd, we also observed Earth Day, an appreciation of Mother Earth, her inhabitants, and a day of awareness that she is growing sicker by the day, our waste being a major factor to this.

You would be surprised at how much stationary becomes waste through overuse. One office worker uses up to 10,000 sheets per year and much of this ends up in the incorrect waste streams (Conserve Energy Future). This is your sign to make sure you are correctly disposing of waste so it can be recycled or upcycled.

In the UK we use 12.5 million tonnes of paper a year which makes for 20% of all our waste. Just by recycling 1 tonne of paper we can save 17 trees, 26,000 litres of water, and 700 gallons of oil (Recycling Facts).

Sustainability is at the forefront of our minds here at London Cleaning Co. As a registered waste carrier, we ensure waste goes to the right places to be correctly recycled.

"When your environment is clean, you feel happy, motivated and healthy" - Lailah Gifty Akita

This quote is one we hold dear to us and just like humans it can be applied to our Earth. Cleanliness is not just about looking clean; it is also correct waste management. We can all do something to look after our London and our planet.
